Ever wondered what happens to your old wine bottles after you recycle them?

Rebottled did - and they didn’t like what they found.

Every year, 440 million wine bottles are thrown away after a single use. Rebottled wants to change that – giving discarded bottles a second life as beautifully designed glassware.

And their stunning range of Dutch-designed products can now be branded!

Read on to discover:

- Who Rebottled are

## In short…

- Its upcycled glassware uses **99% less CO₂ and 98% less water** than new glass.
- Its factory **provides meaningful work** for people who find it hard to get a job in the current market.
- You can personalise every piece with your logo, making it ideal for corporate gifting, events, and seasonal campaigns.

## Who are Rebottled?

Rebottled was founded in 2016 by a young entrepreneur at Enactus who wanted to find a solution to our waste problem, starting with the glass industry.

He started asking questions:

- Why are we reusing beer bottles while throwing away wine bottles?
- Why do we melt glass in polluting furnaces?
- Why does hardly anyone know the environmental impact of glass?

What began as a student project has grown into a circular factory operation. With three European factories, Rebottled now recycles glass bottles into several different products, including candleholders and carafes.

## How Rebottled works

There are two ways in which Rebottled recycles glass bottles:

### 1: Upcycled (the bottle stays a bottle)

1. **Collecting the bottles:** Used wine bottles are gathered instead of being thrown away.
2. **Laser-cutting:** A precision laser cuts each bottle to the chosen height.
3. **Fire-polishing:** The rim is finished with flame until it's perfectly smooth.
4. **Checking, printing, packing:** Every glass is then checked and packed in Rebottled's own packaging, ready for its second life.

### 2. 100% recycled (new products from broken glass)

We all know how breakable glass is, and Rebottled has a solution to even recycle bottles that haven’t survived in one piece.

Rebottled turns shards into new glassware, with no new raw materials needed, by:

1. **Collecting shards:** Broken and unusable glass is saved.
2. **Melting down the shards:** The glass is melted.
3. **Moulding the glass:** The molten glass is shaped into completely new forms, from glasses to bottles.
4. **Finally, checking and packing them:** Each piece is checked and packed, ready for a long life on your table.

## Rebottled FAQs

### 1. What is Rebottled glassware made from?

Rebottled products are made from post-consumer glass. Its upcycled range transforms used wine bottles into new products, while its 100% recycled range uses broken glass to create entirely new designs.

### 2. How much CO₂ and water does Rebottled glassware save?

Compared with new glass, the upcycled process uses 99% less CO₂ and 98% less water. Per glass, that's a saving of 150g of CO₂ emissions and 150 litres of water.

### 3. Are Rebottled's sustainability claims verified?

Yes. The figures are verified by an independent life cycle assessment, checked by PwC.

### 4. What's the difference between upcycled and 100% recycled glassware?

Upcycled glassware is cut and polished from the original wine bottle, so it needs no melting and keeps the bottle's shape. The 100% recycled line melts broken bottles into new raw material, allowing Rebottled to create a wider variety of shapes and colours.

### 5. Can Rebottled glassware be personalised with my logo?

Yes. Upcycled glassware can be personalised with your logo, which makes it ideal for corporate gifts, events and seasonal campaigns.

### 6. Is Rebottled glassware suitable for large orders and events?

Yes. It works as a gift at any scale, from a single thank-you gift to gifts for a thousand event guests.

### 7. Where is Rebottled glassware made?

Rebottled's production started in the Netherlands, with an automated line in Leerdam, and has since grown to a total of three factories in Europe.
