The world of VAT can be confusing at the best of times. That’s why we’ve put together some handy FAQs on VAT so that you can hopefully feel more confident when it comes to understanding your order.
What is VAT?
VAT stands for Value Added Tax. This is a general tax added to every order.
Does my quote include VAT?
Our quotes do not include VAT. This will be added once your enquiry becomes an order, and will show on your invoice.
How much will my VAT charge be?
UK VAT is 20%. This is applicable to all orders delivered within the UK.
This can be worked out by multiplying your total quote amount by 1.20. Or, you can use an online VAT calculator.
However, when you proceed to order, you’ll automatically receive an order confirmation which will state your exact VAT amount.
VAT charges depend on the goods themselves. Some items are exempt from VAT (such as children’s clothes and shoes). You can read more about this on the government website.
When will I pay VAT?
You will pay VAT when you pay for your whole order, usually once your order has been delivered.
I’m a charity - do I need to pay VAT?
No. If you’re a VAT-registered charity, you can claim back your VAT from HMRC. You can read more about this on the government website.
Can I claim back VAT?
It depends on whether your goods and services are VAT exempt. If you sell or supply zero-rated goods or services, you can reclaim the VAT. You can read more about VAT exemptions here.
When will VAT be 0%?
VAT will be 0% if we’re suppling the goods outside of the UK and the EU, or the goods being sold are children’s clothing.
What is Import VAT?
Import VAT is a tax paid when delivering into another country. The country must be different to the one the goods were bought in.
Can I reclaim import VAT?
Import VAT can only be reclaimed if you have a tax registration in that country.
What is the VAT charge if I deliver into Europe?
The VAT into Europe is 21%. This will be added to your final invoice. If you are EU VAT registered, you will be able to claim this back.
Where do I find my EU VAT number?
It’s best to check with your accounts department as to whether you have an EU VAT number.
Is there a VAT charge when delivering outside of Europe?
If you’re delivering outside of the UK and Europe, there will be 0% VAT charged on your order.
Can you remove the VAT charge?
No. This is a legal requirement.
