Hair today, gone tomorrow: donating to The Little Princess Trust.

Because we’re more than just merchandise!

We’re a tight-knit bunch here at Fluid and are always looking out for each other. We love supporting our local communities, and we love to champion those that make Fluid such a wonderful place to work.
We want to encourage our team to get involved with raising funds or volunteering for causes or charities that they feel passionate about, especially when it’s so close to their hearts.

The fantastic people, their passions and the communities they support are what make our merchandise truly meaningful.

Rachael Waterfield, our Digital Marketing Coordinator, recently found herself in a hairy situation by deciding to raise money and donate her locks to The Little Princess Trust.

The Little Princess Trust

Since 2005, The Little Princess Trust has been providing free real hair wigs to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or other conditions. They also provide funding for research into searching for kinder and more effective treatments for childhood cancers. Since they began, they have provided over 17,000 wigs and have invested £30 million in childhood cancer research.

Rachael’s story

Why did you decide to donate your hair? unnamed-2
“I’ve been lucky to have thick healthy hair since I was small, but sadly there are many children without that luxury. Due to cancer and various illnesses, many children lose their hair and with it their confidence. When I heard about The Little Princess Trust, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to help, and I knew donating it would be the best decision.”

What was it like donating your hair?
“It might sound silly, but I’ve never been a fan of myself with short hair! But, I knew I wanted to help this amazing charity - so if it meant learning how to style my hair differently for a while, so be it!”

What will happen to your hair?
“My hair will be used to make wigs for children and young people who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment or other conditions.”

Did you have to take any special precautions prior to donating your hair?
“Not really! It was super easy to donate my hair. I just had to leave it natural and made sure that no leave-in conditioner or styling products were left in the hair after washing and drying it.”

Can anyone donate their hair?
“Most people can as long as their hair is not less than 7 inches (17cms) long, wet or damp, dyed an unnatural colour (blue, purple, etc) or dyed with a temporary or semi-permanent dye. To find out more about hair donation requirements, you can check out The Little Princess Trust’s FAQs

How was fundraising?
“It was such an incredible feeling donating so much hair, plus raising money to help with the cost of making and fitting the wigs. Thanks to Fluid’s match funding scheme, I was able to raise a total of £600 for The Little Princess Trust which is just amazing!”
