Notjust Clothing are a registered social enterprise built up of a lovely bunch of socially conscious creatives.
Based in Manchester, UK, everything they produce is designed and created with sustainability in mind.
Since 2017, they've been committed to creating ethical and sustainable clothing that drives positive social impact - from scarves, knitwear and blankets to jackets, socks and your favourite Christmas jumpers, they create products that make people smile.
Notjust’s core belief is that their products should make a real difference, one you can wear. By either provoking a chuckle or a moment to think, Notjust are here to revolutionise knitwear for the better.
By creating all their garments in the UK, Notjust are ensuring that their workers receive ethical working conditions and fair wages. They also offer part-ownership of their factory to those who work there, giving them a stake in the business. Through working together for a shared goal, they’ve ensured that everyone is paid a fair wage and works in a positive and fair environment, which lets them focus on the important stuff – pushing the boundaries of knitwear and creating amazing products.
Because they make everything in the UK, Notjust ensure their carbon emissions from transporting etc are kept low. Plus, all the packaging used for their jumpers is completely biodegradable.
By committing to premium quality, Notjust are fighting against the ‘throwaway generation’ of our generation.
From design to final garment, Notjust pride themselves on their ability to produce premium quality products on rapid turnarounds.
What makes Notjust’s knitwear even more unique is their ability to do what others can’t. Their team has been bringing weird and wonderful products to life since they began, and by breaking nearly every rule in knitwear, they’ve learned how to turn the seeds of an impossible idea into a fully realised product.
Take a look at this Christmas jumper they designed for us!
Not only do they create amazing knitwear, but through each of their viral campaigns, they’ve raised over £100,000 for charities including Save the Children, Trussell Trust, NHS Charities Together, and many more.
It’s not just clothing anymore, it’s a movement!
Even though Notjust are super popular for their Christmas jumpers, they also have a whole range of products - from scarves, socks, and accessories, to jackets, labelling, and blankets (plus lots more).
Notjust realise that, together, we have the responsibility and the power to combat the drastic impact that fast fashion has had on our planet and our society, and they’re doing everything they can to have as little impact on the environment as possible.
All the packing Notjust use for their jumpers is completely biodegradable. Their products are also made to last.
Plus, their Christmas Jumpers are made from recycled materials, including recycled waste acrylic yarn. This means they’re able to divert yarn and plastic from landfills and oceans whilst simultaneously eliminating the need to produce new yarn - yay!
Their expert technicians have perfected Notjust’s zero-waste production methods using many decades of experience in garment production.
Each year, waste from garment production pollutes the air, earth and water. As a result, at Notjust, they only use materials that are either recycled (incorporating the waste produced during the production processes into remanufacturing), completely natural (and free from pesticides), or are completely biodegradable.
Because all of their knitwear production is done within the UK, all of their fulfilment centre and returns hub are located under one roof in Manchester. This ensures that carbon emissions from transport are kept super low.
Plus, their carbon-neutral partnership with DPD allows them to utilise the same technology as other major retailers, ensuring all shipping is as carbon-neutral as possible.
Through creating all of their garments domestically, Notjust ensures that ethical working conditions and a fair living wage are provided for all workers.
Also, each knit is made using acrylic or recycled acrylic, guaranteeing the material is created without any cruelty to humans or animals.
They are also SEDEX audited every year.
Everything Notjust do is focused on giving back, from their charitable donations to manufacturing in local factories to supporting their local community.
Being ethical & sustainable requires constant review, reflection and reinvestment. Notjust will continue to make changes to ensure they’re building a better future.
Since their very first garment, design has been at the heart of everything they do. From reinventing classic Christmas jumpers, transforming football scarves, knitting photo-realistic detail onto blankets, and creating beautiful bespoke garments for leading fashion brands.
Notjust have always pushed the boundaries of knitwear design to create products that defy the traditional knitwear aesthetic (i.e., it’s not just for grannies).
Notjust are always looking for ways to develop new products. Whether this be how it’s made or what it ends up looking like, they’re always looking for new ways to be innovative.
Everything they make is of the highest quality. This helps reduce wastage while providing you with premium products that can be used again and again.
No idea is too weird or abstract for them (seriously, the weirder, the better!). No matter what the brief, Notjust thrive on the challenge of bringing your ideas to life.
Based in the heart of Manchester, their factory is SEDEX approved, guaranteeing you’re working with an ethical factory that adheres to strict industry health and safety regulations and provides a positive working environment for all staff.
Fully equipped to produce quality garments at pace, their factory uses cutting-edge knitting machines that allow them to knit approximately 30,000 high-quality units every month! Plus, their team of expert knitwear technicians are fully equipped with the skills for a whole bunch of different knitting techniques, and they individually quality check every garment at every stage before shipping to guarantee a high-quality product.
Through this combination of machinery, expertise and our disruptive approach to knitwear, Notjust push the rules of knitwear and brings you garments no one else can.
Notjust’s process is super simple: you bring the concept and they’ll work collaboratively with you to bring your idea to life, all under one roof. From initial ideation and designs to production and final delivery to you or your customers, Notjust provide their clients with a streamlined and superb experience.
Their in-house creatives will help to develop your ideas, creating a concept you’re happy with. No matter what the original idea, they’re sure to turn it into something spectacular.
Once the concept is developed, it’s over to Notjust’s in-house designers to bring them to life. You’ll have opportunities to review throughout the process, from initial sketches right through to pixelated design.
After design approval, their expert design team will convert your mockup into a knitting program. They’ll then send you a sample of your design on a next-day delivery service for you to review and request tweaks until you’re 100% satisfied.
Being UK-based means orders are turned around quickly.
Notjust’s in-house fulfilment operation has been serving major clients for over 5 years. They integrate with all major sales platforms, have relationships with most major international couriers, and provide individual tracking on delivery - so you don’t have to worry.
In 2021, Notjust were asked to design Aperol a sustainable Christmas jumper that sparked conversation, joy and excitement whilst giving Aperol a stronger share of voice during the winter months.
They did this by honing in on Aperol’s Italian roots and 1919 origins, weaving nods to their Venetian heritage whilst subtly heroing their ingredients. Those who bought the jumper were also rewarded with a free drink via a unique swing tag attached to every knit, driving footfall to their key on-trade locations.
Pepsi requested three unique T-shirts for a Doritos advert promoting the Women's Euros, along with 150 tees for a competition.
Notjust took Pepsi's initial design and amplified it by incorporating the vibrant visuals of Doritos' Heatwave flavour. Using DTF printing, they added a dynamic zigzag pattern and colours inspired by the new Doritos logo.
Before 2022, the Mercedes F1 team had never produced an official Christmas Jumper! However, Stitchd (on behalf of Mercedes) gave Notjust a brief - “Design us a Christmas Jumper”. Easy peasy!
They wanted to retail it across all online F1 platforms, including the Official F1 store, Fuel For Fans and Fanatix.
The final product featured four different Mercedes F1 labels and logos, and made those who wore it feel like they were about to step into a Grand Prix at Silverstone!
