6 questions everyone should be asking their employers
Isn’t it time we all went beyond?
This B Corp month, we want to challenge you to go beyond your everyday. To ask questions, to poke holes, to confront. To stand firm and ask, “Could we do more?”
Because without confronting and committing to actionable steps for moving forward, nothing would change, and that doesn’t sit right with us.
We all know that when we work together and have meaningful conversations we can achieve anything. That’s why we want to challenge you to quiz your employer’s values and aspirations for their business. To take action with open discussion of how to improve for the better, for the future. It’s an exciting time to keep the momentum going way beyond B Corp Month.
Are you ready to become a changemaker?
6 questions everyone should be asking their employers
1. Who do you give back to?
Working for a company that champions giving back to others is a surefire way to add that extra little sparkle to your step.
If you’re not aware of what yours is doing, ask!
Donating, fundraising or giving their team the opportunity to volunteer are all ways your company can give back to charity or the planet.
And if they aren’t doing anything, why not?
2. What can we do better than other companies?
Studying competitors is all part of being good at business, and admiring what they do can lead to some thought-provoking questions about what you can do better.
Admire, make notes, and ask your team what your brand can do better than others to make a real impact.
3. Can our customers benefit from our values and aspirations?
Because that’s why we do what we do, right?
To inspire and delight our clients, to make their lives easier, better, and more fulfilled.
And we can only do that if we have values and aspirations that align with theirs.
4. If there’s one thing you want your brand to stand for, what would it be?
Finding out what your employer wants their brand to stand for can reveal a lot about where their brand intentions lie, and whether they align with your own career goals.
Working for a brand with a clear, positive objective means you can feel empowered by the brand, which is always a great feeling.
5. What’s our brand story?
This is a particularly good question to ask if you’re new to a company.
Hearing your employer tell their brand story in their own words can give you some insight into the wider company goals and morals, and indeed where you fit into the bigger picture.
6. How do you go beyond?
With B Corp Month coming to a close, it’s always a good idea to ask your employer the question: How are you going beyond?
Because ‘going beyond’ for people and the planet isn’t just for March, it’s for, well, ever.
Asking your employer what their future plans are, and how they aim to do more and be more, is vital for knowing whether any positive brand affiliations are just short-term fancies or a long-term engrained brand ethos.
