Celebrating B Corp Month: What are we doing today for a better tomorrow?

On Tuesday 11th March 2025, Fluid’s Brand Manager, Gemma Richards, attended the Cornwall B local B Corp month celebration event.

Hosted at the lovely Launchpad (an inspiring venture studio where candidates develop startup ideas with the support of entrepreneurs in residence and mentors), within Falmouth University’s Penryn campus, fellow Cornish B Corps gathered together to celebrate.

The day was full of amazing speakers, thought-provoking conversations, and excellent B Corp inspiration.

(Anti) Greenwashing

Chartered Environmentalist and B Leader Ben Thorne began the day with an insightful and interactive presentation on (Anti) Greenwashing.

He educated us on how to identify statements that use misleading claims and how to avoid these in our marketing.

He also explained how third-party certification is the best way to demonstrate your sustainability credentials - just like we do by being a certified B Corp and growing our Fluid Forest with Ecologi

St. Eval

Next up was Harry Young Jamieson, Managing Director of Cornish-based candle manufacturer St. Eval

He spoke about his leadership journey, from working on Hollywood movies to returning to Cornwall and the family business.

He also elaborated on what the B Corp movement means to him and how his offices and factory are embracing nature and great team culture - which also featured a very cute Hungry Caterpillar!

Flexi-Hex

The final speaker was Bella Collins of Flexi-Hex, a fabulous Cornish packaging company - we’ve been big fans of Flexi-Hex at Fluid for a while.

It was a very authentic and honest talk on how being a B Corp has helped Flexi-Hex. Whilst they might not have always gotten everything right along the way, having B Corp as “a referee or rule book” has been a really important part of their journey - which certainly resonated with us!

Break-out sessions

After a lovely buffet lunch, there were 3 break-out sessions featuring several different subjects.

These covered a range of diverse topics, such as:

  • Workplace Wellbeing: How to create a happy/supportive workplace, where kindness, trust and communication were identified as key factors for high-performing teams.  Hosted by Bella from FlexiHex.
  • Future Workforce: Update on changes to employment law. Hosted by Verity Slater from Stephens Scown Solicitors
  • Upcoming Changing B Corp Standards: Hosted by Simon Thomason and Grace Reith, B Leaders for Cornwall.
