Raising funds for the Marine Conservation Society
Fluid’s recent Annual Company Conference saw the team coming together to reconnect after an uneasy 18 months for all. It was a great opportunity to let our hair down, dance the night away, see some familiar faces, meet a whole bunch of new ones, and get the chance to catch up with our amazing suppliers and key partners.
...but it wasn’t all partying and merchandise. With COP26 just around the corner, Fluid’s resolve to help people and planet is stronger than ever.
Being part of the team at Fluid means much more than simply saying the right things. A few years ago now, at another Company Conference, our founders Miles Lovegrove and Matt Franks launched our Three Pillars - designed to ensure we're always being our best selves in everything we do. The Futures, Friends and Family focus groups articulate our business ethos beyond profit and help to govern the commercial decisions we make.
Since then, we’ve put our money where our mouth is, so to speak. We’ve become B Corp Certified, pledged to achieve Carbon Net Zero by 2030 (20 years ahead of the Paris Climate Accords), achieved Investors in People Accreditation, joined the United Nations Global Compact initiative… the list goes on. We even plant a tree with every order!
...but there’s always more that can be done. One of the sessions in our most recent Reconnection 2021 Conference, led by Financial Controller Miranda Hope, saw groups of the Fluid Family getting together to find something we all had in common - and make a pledge of something we could do together related to that connection.
The group I found myself in found that we all wanted to do more - to raise funds for a cause that shared our values. We also found that an ideal way to do this was to try to boost our fitness levels after a pretty dark time for the planet. So we made our pledge:
For every week of November in 2021, we will each cover 15 miles of ground to raise funds for the Marine Conservation Society.
The Marine Conservation Society is a UK-wide community of ocean lovers, all working together towards a vision of a sea full of life, where nature flourishes and people thrive. They fight for the future of the oceans through people-powered action - with a goal to recover the health of the ocean for the sake of wildlife, climate and our own wellbeing.
For a few of us, this level of activity hasn’t been a regular part of life for quite some time (!) - so it’s time to change that. And thanks to Fluid’s Charity & Community Project Match Funding, whatever money we raise will be matched by Fluid - doubling our donation!
November is just around the corner, and I can’t wait to get started. Please wish us well in our pledge - it may not be the easiest challenge as the cold winter months set in, but we’re a pretty determined bunch!
