Meet Roy! Voted Fluid’s Employee of the Year and, at our annual company conference, he was also awarded the title of ‘Helping Hand’ - an award given to those who go above and beyond to help those within the team. Not only is he a dab hand at solving all our tech issues, but he’s also pretty good at chess (major understatement) and loves a good book or two (chat to him for anything Witcher-related). He’s an actual lifesaver when it comes to all things tech.

1. What’s your favourite thing about working as a Junior IT Support Technician?
"Getting to meet everyone! My role involves helping colleagues across all of Fluid’s departments, which means I get to meet new people daily."

2. What does a Junior IT Support Technician do?
"My main role as a Junior IT Technician is to support the teams within Fluid with anything IT-related. From cameras not working to data security, every day is different - which definitely keeps things interesting! "

3. How did you become a Junior IT Support Technician?
"I’ve always loved anything techy. As a kid, I was a big gamer (and still am), so I’ve always had an interest in the nitty gritty of tech. This led to me becoming the dedicated tech support for my family (holidays were very busy for me!), so it felt only right that I pursue it as a career."

4. What does your morning routine look like?
"I won’t lie, my morning routine probably isn’t the MOST productive. I usually wake up as late as possible and rely on my morning tea to get me through until lunch!"

image-png-Feb-05-2025-10-21-44-0889-AM“I like to try and spend as much time with my dogs as possible in the morning."

5. What’s something you have to get done every day no matter what?
"Okay, so not many people know this, but every day I have to switch the disks over that contain all the updates for Fluid’s data. This includes user data and PC updates, plus lots more. I have to change them over and make sure everything’s recorded - so it’s super important."

6. What does your typical day look like?
"Honestly, it’s hard to say! One of the perks of my job is that every day is different - you just don’t know what tech issues are going to crop up. I usually have a few meetings in the morning with the rest of the Technical Services team to discuss the progress we’ve made with our current tasks. Then my afternoons are filled with sorting any ad hoc issues."

7. What’s it like working with promotional merchandise?
"I don’t get to work with merchandise that closely, unfortunately! But from what I hear from other teams and what I see on our socials, there’s so much variety and change (for the better) happening within the industry, with Fluid being integral to this. I feel quite proud to be a part of it."

8. What tips would you give someone wanting to become a Junior IT Support Technician?
"Ideally, you need to keep up to date with the latest tech trends. Whether that be through online tech journals or your favourite tech influencers, keeping on track with what’s going on in the industry is key. Also, always prioritise learning! Problem-solving skills, communication skills and technical knowledge are also important for an IT Support Technician to have."

9. What’s the most challenging part of your job?
"I’d have to say the hardest part of my job is dealing with big platform issues that require some major troubleshooting. Relying on external IT teams to fix problems at their end can be frustrating. Internet outages are the worst, too, as everything we do is based online so if our teams can't get on the web, we can’t work!"

10. What do you do to spark inspiration?
"Rather than doing something, I tend to look towards my team for inspiration. Dan is incredibly experienced and his knowledge is second to none. The whole of the Technical Services team is always willing to help though, and that definitely helps me to stay inspired and focused - it’s lovely being a part of such a great team."
